Curious Displays

:N*: You have got to see this (watch the video! Julia Tsao project: Curious Displays which functions simultaneously as a form of design research and as a proposal for a new product, a future display technology.

“The project explores our relationship with devices and technology by examining the multi-dimensionality of communication and the complexity of social behavior and interaction. In its essence, the project functions as a piece of design fiction, considering the fluctuating nature of our present engagement with media technology and providing futurist imaginings of other ways of being.”

RingKing rules!

:N*: Clever beyond clever! Usually jewellers tend to overcrowd an interface with their inventory, but RINGKING chose an altogether different direction. How about total minimalist, huge RK black letters serving as backdrop for the dropping circles encasing their gorgeous bling? Double-click an item to view large thumbnail.

That’s it! Enough interactivity, stunning products, simple nav and voilà, the recipe for a great website.

The Apple Boy

:N*: Hipolito Gimenez Blanco, an argentinian web developer, is in New Zealand trying to get a new job in the internet industry. The Apple Boy is a great personal direct marketing action in order to apply for a job!

Creative Suitcase

:N*: Creative Suitcase is a custom web design and graphic design agency. Good nav idea of using semi-transparent clickable content bars to highlight the different sections.

What do you think, works or not?

They Make Apps

:N*: TheyMakeApps website is part of the new generation that offers more clickable goodness (with alternate nav by mouse or keyboard keys) and useful content for iPhone developers? More than 700 listed to date.

Get listed in the Yellow Pages of the Apps Makers, to secure a spot for our imminent launch and it’s free.

Niiiice interface design!

Now trending

:N*: Now trending is black and white newspaper like grid, with large logo, titling and visuals and the new T New York Times is definitely following this.

Simply HUGE

:N*: Simple. I’m just a HUGE fan! Check what they did on the jetBlue case study as a layout for the page. Now check the size of that suitcase; it’s humongous.. huh.. huge!

Works or not?

:N*: Ok I get it. Negative space rules. Check. As well as strict minimalism. Check. Less is best. Check. One-page interface holder. Check. Nice typographic treatment. Check. Nice and large visuals. Check. No scrolling up or down or left or right. Check. But dear Stone Yamashita partners, I like the approach, still I was kind of expecting more, not less.

What do you think. Works or not?

Happy Cog’aoke

:N*: Gotta luv the Happy Cog’aoke 2 website! Nice
interface, usability and functionalities.

Flavors.me

:N*: Flavors.me allows anyone to create an elegant website using personal content from around the internet. Watch the video to see the functionalities. How about that?

Made by Fudge

:N*: Oh! I’m liking this! The website made by Fudge is like a screen capture that includes, guidelines, selected type, the familiar gray square background and portion of the toolbar.. Now that’s taking a metaphor and translating it down to every tiny detail.

Smart concept!

Obey Your Brain

:N*: It may hurt your eyes, because Obey Your Brain ain’t shy of using extreme visual bling, photographic artifacts and loads of.. animated .gif (!!!) to convey the creativity of the peeps hosting their music and art on the website.

Refreshing also, to see that such websites still exist. It means that the web 2.0 has not drain and silenced all possibilities.

_______

You can buy some kewl shirts and accessories too.

Super Resoluut

:N*: Make room for the super heroes from Resoluut hailing from Amsterdam! The spanking new website is smartly designed and ads value to the service offering from this online communication group. They specializes in interactive interface design for websites, mobiles and touchscreens.

Hop over and see for yourself!

Verbatim monster

:N*: Fun! Couldn’t resist playing the Verbatim monster building championship website. Think they can engage in somekind of a fight but just seeing the random assemblaging was ample (fun) for me.

Create your own!

100% Chocolate Cafe

:N*: Who wants chocolate? I do – I do.. and I’m not alone! The benefits of eating (high quality) chocolate are real and the joy of both giving and receiving is still a strong tradition.

So how about I introduce you to a company that has taken the business to a 2.0 level? 100% Chocolate Cafe has developed a fabulous concept and packaging that can entices to explore 56 diferent flavors from all over the globe.

The website (though in Japanese only) is an eye candy jewel.

_______

Each flavor shows a propriety chart! Wow!

_______

Check the Tab Letter section to compose a message and get a personalized box ready! Tried it check out the results. Now that is cool!

Themeleon rocks

:N*: Don’t have time to personalize your Twitter background. Here is a genial idea by COLOURLover: Themeleon and also a quick overview and link to a tutorial by Jarel Remick.

Did some exploration and using a single palette choice (there are a staggering 724,730 background patterns and 1,083,156 color palettes to choose from) came up with the following.

Rocking app! Have fun!

Who is your type?

:N*: Oh! You gotta try this. Who is your type? by Pentagram. Fill in name — use this password: Character — answer the 4 questions (turn on your speakers) and tada! You are done and profiled.

The results are accompanied of a small and succinct narrative about the font and its designer(s). Luv the Brit accent of anonymous anchor, so class! In order to test it, did a first round under my real name, then under a nom de plume changing two variants (from emotional to rational / from understated to assertive).

Shown the results :) )

:Update: Marcus Eriksson aka Subdisc is not only an xtra talented creative director, graphic designer, typographer and aspiring photographer, but also a man on a mission. Since ‘99 he has consistently brought design goodness to many projects mostly in the field of sports and entertainment.

_______

Recently, he embarked on a total new journey. In fact, A Journey To Zero, will be conducted under the tutelage of Richard Saul Wurman, TED founder, who will guide the conversation around zero emission mobility.

The website is a little jewel in ref with interactive exploration, and the content (which incldes videos) as challenging as the navigation. You can actually join the movement and make a poster, download the font, take the pledge and spread the word around you.

Fiktiv is about

:N*: Fiktiv is about searching, exploring, finding, playing, words, work and their website is gorgeous! Luv the thumbnail wall that cycle new material upon refresh. Luv-luv their second-level page reusing the simple yellow banner with their animated tagline and big arrows.

Did I mention it? Their portfolio is spectacular.

Was surprised, oh joy!

Flowery powery

:N*: The stunningly beautiful flowery powery flash website of xtra talented illustrator Lotie whose feminine yet edgy print work, animations and other projects breath fantasy and imagination.

This powagirrrl rocks!
