Happy Cog’aoke

Gotta luv the Happy Cog’aoke 2 website! Nice
interface, usability and functionalities.

Interface layouts

Harvested some interesting websites that each have a unique approach to their current contexts. The new trend, as you can see is all about ‘black/gray/white’ which are making a return as the favored color for contrast.

Do you think minimalist / empty is the new full?

Working on a new website? Don’t go dark – do something like Toko Design. Show your best work in a one-page with a proeminent contact link.

_______

Large negative expanses (white space), simple top text navigation to projects and huge visuals to show off capabilities as This Studio did.

_______

Got to make your visitors choose between two different sections? Make sure to use as Counter-Print did, explicit text with no ambiguities.

_______

Super confident in your work? Then use merely a slideshow with easy next / previous links. Make sure clicking images takes to a more detailed section of the projects as Build did.

_______

Use large black blocks for navigation and smaller lines to create an elegant minimalist effect to seperate sections as Subtraction did.

_______

An excellent idea to put emphasis on the latest project delivered as Iain Claridge Studio did. Playing off grayscales affords a nice neutral interface.

_______

Lastly, only dare using pop-ups windows if you have no other way to show a large portfolio as did Studio Newwork did.

Pictoplasma *up

The Pictoplasma Berlin Festival brings together an international scene of artists, directors, designers and agencies, offering a unique forum for all those working with – or simply loving – the visualisation and application of contemporary character design.

The lively exchange between the various disciplines highlights the importance of characters in contemporary visual culture.

Pepa Prieto rocks

This girl can draw! Pepa Prieto is very well known for her illustrated characters that are both endearing and odd at same time. Her work has been published and exhibited all over.

Thinking *up

Is it just me or there are a lot of newly relaunched websites going for huge visuals and lateral scrolling? MoCo Loco is one example that comes to mind. Well one of my fav bunch of people Duane King and company have redesigned Thinking for a Living that kept its signature soft pink background and nice typographic treatment for sections. Personally I really like it.

What do you think? Like or not? Works or not?

Snowgraphy?

Melting snow on my back balcony that caught my eye (no retouching). Snapped a snow shaped E! Snowgraphy???

Dear Sesame St.

Dear Sesame St. by Bran Dougherty-Johnson

“We, the undersigned, would like to register our concern over the contest you are now conducting with Aniboom. We are concerned that your contest includes a solicitation of original design concepts, characters and content to be produced on a speculative basis by cartoonists, artists, motion designers and animators.”

Just signed it! Please DO so too!

_______

And The World of Charles & Ray Eames posters by Ed Nacional.

Made by Fudge

Oh! I’m liking this! The website made by Fudge is like a screen capture that includes, guidelines, selected type, the familiar gray square background and portion of the toolbar.. Now that’s taking a metaphor and translating it down to every tiny detail.

Smart concept!

I Love Nice People

I Love Nice People Who Make Cool Things” so do we. This phrase has been illustrated in numerous variations by Will Bryant.

Hola Amiga

Hola Amiga has got a short run of hand-made pillows that I simply find irresistible!

Obey Your Brain

It may hurt your eyes, because Obey Your Brain ain’t shy of using extreme visual bling, photographic artifacts and loads of.. animated .gif (!!!) to convey the creativity of the peeps hosting their music and art on the website.

Refreshing also, to see that such websites still exist. It means that the web 2.0 has not drain and silenced all possibilities.

_______

You can buy some kewl shirts and accessories too.

‘Alien’ thumb

Heading out to elucidate what’s the latest concerning accident I had past September. There is still numbness, swelling, the scar of the open laceration still quite sensitive and gross nail growing after 2x surgery to derail infection.

X-Ray of my ‘alien’ right thumb. Was taken 3+ months after accident. Look at the tip you can still see the fracture. As Doc said: “It took a massive impact to smash the bone as that!”

Matthew Dent

Sweet Chocolate

Drawing experiment

If you like to draw, as I do, one drawing a day keeps the trouble away or keeps you inspired or keeps your brain at the tip of your fingers. Self-assigned projects like ENCREetPAPIER, are proof of the difficulty and joy of doing so: some will be ok, other blah and other will be excellent.

Mimipong *up

The Superpunks

The Superpunks photo essay by Jan van Holleben is one of many quirky, out there experiments he has done through the years. In this particular one (as in others as well), he takes unexpected daily objects and accessories and turns them into something else altogether.

Proof of a mind capable of conceptualizing forms and then finding the object that renders his vision.
