Setting up a lab in your agency by Jon Lax
Jon Lax, the co-founder of Teehan+Lax, discusses why the agency built a dedicated labs group. While to the outside it may seem like we have just hopped on the bandwagon, the truth is we spent a considerable amount of time designing and thinking about this group, its purpose, its operations and its mandate.
What we have learned after one year:
a) Resourcing still an issue
b) PR is a double edged sword
c) Create a hacker culture

This Is Generation Flux: Meet The Pioneers Of The New (And Chaotic) Frontier Of Business by Robert Safian
Any business that ignores these transformations does so at its own peril. <- Said that back in ’95 about the www.
There is one certainty, however. The next decade or two will be defined more by fluidity than by any new, settled paradigm; if there is a pattern to all this, it is that there is no pattern.
The most valuable insight is that we are, in a critical sense, in a time of chaos. <- gotta love this one – our band name is After Chaos.
Because some people will thrive. They are the members of Generation Flux <- oh finally belonging somewhere – I’m a GenFluxer.

Sparkeology fresh take on furniture and the value of simplicity, among other things. Most furniture includes power hubs and the design is beautiful w/ sustainability and social responsibility in mind.
Gotta love the concept of the blackboard that complements each product which are personalized / reconfigurable as per home / office / public spaces needs.
Have a look at their .pdf brochure too.

Few days shy of one year since Netdiver Mag was repurposed to become sort of a very unofficial record of web history as captured from {1998 – onwards} — I am thrilled to make this announcement.
After 17 years dedicated to leveraging the online creative community — it’s my turn. Reinvention time.
Portion of the semi-sabbatical creative reboot I am undertaking this year — à la Sagmeister — will appear in the feed. Semi = talents or projects will be featured w/ posts intermeshed w/ my own creative output.
Sabbatical = no client work.
_______

First on my list — a few are aligned — a self-initiated project involving photography, typo and illustration. Currently sifting through my stacks of pictures — doing a first round pre-selection. More edits for sure. Themed or color keyed or both? May work — or not — but the concept is set. Figuring out the ‘selection’ process to achieve a fluid eye-candy storyboard.
The passionate image seeker is decloaking today. Expect point and shoot or staged shots. My quest for the right ‘typographic’ treatments. Graphic design to nail ‘identity’ and editorial grid.
Ultimate goal? Publish a book. No title yet.
_______
Preparing a staging exercise w/ my new Fujifilm x10. Took w/ iPhone screen of camera w/ background. Cool huh?

Things I have Learned in My Life So Far is a compendium of philosophical introspection tidbits by the design community enfant terrible Stefan Sagmeister.
It seems that some of these taglines were used for clients after his return from his sabbatical year back in 2000. Well in my view, if you can convince clients to play along – given how corporations rather go for profits first than values – shows a high level of persuasion.

Assuming is stifling.
Over time I get used to everything and start taking for granted.
Money does not make me happy.
Trying to look good limits my life.
Worrying solves nothing.
Complaining is silly. Either act or forget.
Low expectations are a good strategy.
