Going meta is the new trend and Girlfriend new website is following suit. Are people going blind? Screen monitors too big? Or smartphones screen to small? Or wanting the right ratio effect on tablets, such as iPad, PlayBook or Xoom?
What do you think? Works or not?

Brand Republic stunning website and visuals zeroing on what they do best. Communication design and.. branding!

Promising overture for UP inc a branding studio, but don’t think the small rounds navigation serve them well to propel what they do in a favorable way. Especially smallish type – you need to mouse over each to find the ‘work’ section, which then shows small visuals.
Wonder why they did not use the same ‘flashy’ style as the intro?

Mark Boyce has devised quite an intriguing website. Opens up on a single white small dot over black. Using the simple pictograms on the right – there ya go – you just found the navigation which leads to discover an astute way of showcasing his portfolio.
Shot through a transparent glass, (you clearly see how hands flattens against the surface) – potential for a complete DIY process, since you could easly use the ‘delayed’ shot feature on a digital camera set at the right height with the right lighting.
Particularly like the BE Broadband project, shown below.

Clever and simple navigational system for Imagehaus a design consultancy for consumer brands website website. Bottom slider opens up to download wallpapers or join their mailing list. Did you know? Over the years, gift cards have become a staple for most retailers. People love giving them, getting them and using them.
Do you use postcards as self-promo items?

Peopledesign work is people-centered. By walking in their customers’ shoes, they learn what they know, what they value, what annoys them, and what is missing in their experiences.
The website is a swell example of neutral palette meets airy navigation with striking visuals.

_______
Results page though is too much. Thumbnails are way too small. Making these bigger plus choosing a smaller selection would have convey their point better.

Though I like the idea of using large visuals to show portfolio projects, in the case of Public – sometimes the transition from dark – whereas navigation disappears – to light is too much and makes for a poor user experience. The simplicity of the colored squares navigation is ok but the opening empty index space is overwhelming. Important to make sure to pick meaningfully related backgrounds.
Best to keep it within the same color range palette. Something to keep in mind if you intend to use such an approach.
