CRetreat / w

Creative Retreat week — publishing hiatus.

Will spend the full week head over heels in master files collated for multiple projects. Will work on a product line logo. Photography tests from Fujifilm x10 / iPad / Photoshop. Explore further the ‘C’ concept. Finish the HappyKamper project. Finish sifting photo archives.

Add pretty colours to on-going 5 x 2.5 and 3 x 3 canvases.

_______

Netdiver Mag publishing — to resume April 2.

_______

Meanwhile — Feed you eyes.

_______

illustration: Pencil Mountains by Brent Coudmann

Eye Mag / logo

While visiting the Eye blog which has one of the yummiest eye candy luscious – oh did I just say ‘eye’ candy – well design logo where I found an article showing past ‘covers‘.

_______

Gave me the idea of doing a little digging to see if any of my fav covers would be archived somewhere. Fav fabs.

_______

Pay attention to the evolution of their logo. Believe it or not – last visual is the cover of the very first issue! Ohlala.

Shotopop re/design

And they do it again. Relentless – creative – determined the girls at Shotopop have redesigned their website. View some of their latest projects. They keep on being better and better.

The Furnace

The Furnace interior artwork design by Rudy de Wet

All the artwork is hand painted on the walls and floors. There are also laser cut frames which are used to showcase some of their award winning work.

Poppin / A1

Poppin complete branding and web / packaging collaterals by Apartment One.

Shouldn’t the tools of our trades be as smart and vibrant as the work they help us to produce? Entrepreneurs Ken Seiff (founder of Bluefly) and Chris Burch (cofounder of Tory Burch) saw an opportunity in the marketplace for high-design, affordable office products. And with Poppin, they launched their mission to bring happy back to the office.

Brilliant!

Wisdom / intro

Gray is good – over 50 is awesome. Wisdom – Introduction.

50 of the world’s most inspiring and iconic figures over the age of 65 share their words of wisdom. Wisdom is a multimedia exhibition that features extraordinary large-format portraits and documentary footage of interviews created by award-winning photographer and filmmaker Andrew Zuckerman.

MMA / tartan

Mark Allen Miller uses retro characters jusggling w/ colorful elements in his editorial illustration commissioned by large media publishers.

Simple website w/ thumbnails that always repeat his cool logo.

_______

Very fond of using a tartan pattern – using a very similar color palette – applied to his illustration as backgrounds or little insert reminders or as stroked elements sorta has become his design signature.

A infographics

You into infographics? Know about Amazing Infographics? In this era of record short attention span from audience and the expectation of in-real time delivery – data visualization has become one of the fastest growing area of the design sector.

_______

The Artolo project is simply awesome. Description: Artolo think they have a great solution to selling your art without you selling your soul.

Delicious

Choose your color by Mélanie aka Griottes. She had free reign on how to conceptualize a series for Fricote, a food magazine. What she came up w/ is an astounding assemblage of Pantone based mini-tarts.

Must see!

Andrew Huang

SOLIPSIST by Andrew Huang who is a commercial and music video director living in Los Angeles. A tour de force from a production point of view. The storyboard is somewhat weird and beautiful and disturbing and since it is an experimental short – nothing is spared. Under water themed there is no storyline per se.

Winner at SLAMDANCE 2012 of the Special Jury Prize for Experimental Short.

Hipster Branding

Hipster Branding project by Dave Spengeler. He reimagined and redesigned popular brands using the current design trends.

Eye candy

Although how m-inspira came to be is quite complicated. Let’s say it started by one studying industrial design – then mastering in graphic design, skipping the annual furniture fair, making friends with others sharing similar taste for nice design..

Clearly seeking their way / voice – never underestimate small beginnings – we were all newbies once.

Love two eye candy projects. The luscious gelatin typography on the index.

_______

And the Fallas Turis 2012 poster.

Web D / trends

Symptoms Of An Epidemic: Web Design Trends by Espen Brunborg

Incidentally, this aesthetic inspires another designer who happens to be working on a website with a global audience, exposing the new approach to a whole generation of designers who, in turn, apply it at will (often without considering the context). A trend is born.

Can’t pass this one up. For once – an article on the ‘design’ part of the web is explained w/ convincing examples.. oh trends..

Subverted

Gent mini city

And the little people are back! Fantastic logo installation for “Gent Scheppende Stad” (Ghent Creative City). Objective was together with several creative forces/different sectors of society to look for solutions for the urban challenges, so they can shape the future of the City.

Not only constructed in 3d – all letters have interconnected staging areas covering daily activities in a city.

Superb storyboarding / production by Coming Soon.

Now ain’t that a fun job or what?

_______

Check out the photoshoot installation. Nice gear.

Graphic identity for Deli by Morey Talmor. An old school American style sandwich shop with a backdoor leading to a suave cocktail bar and mini club, located in Tel Aviv, Israel.

The graphic language is a simplistic contemporary take on 50’s and 60’s American diner aesthetic.

Wish I had designed this.

VBG. / rules

In response to the "What have you enterprised as a personal project lately?" question asked to Featured by group on FB, a designer that I admire, Gregor Žakelj head of VBG answered this:

This was our new years gift to clients. It’s the tangible connection between a designer’s world and the world around the designer. We wanted to show how we see things in pixels…

Here it is the Pixel ruler.

_______

(Suggest you read copy on project page – inspiring)

Mr. B’s website

Mr. B’s website is what a collection of products should be about. Luxurious expanse of empty mixed in a subdued palette and gorgeous photography.

Love some of their copy – which is probably applicable to design at large as well:

Classic. It isn’t old. It isn’t retro. And it definitely isn’t sentimental for some bygone era. Classic has one foot in then and one foot in now. And always will. Classic evolves but doesn’t age. Classic isn’t a style, yet classic is never out of style. Classic doesn’t suddenly become classic again; classic is forever.

_______

Even Better Than iPhone 5: An iPhone With The 1986 Mac OS by Mark Wilson

iOS 86, by designer Anton Repponen, is a conceptual mashup of iOS and the Mac OS of yore. And against the odds of time and technology, the old interface still looks stunning on one of the world’s most advanced smartphones.
