Jack Hughes

Just discovered Jack Hughes a mirific superlatively talented designer and illustrator hailing from the UK. His compositions are a joyful eyeful bountiful exepriences. His palette feels like cool modern going on retro. And what about the illustrations themselves?

Oh just that close to perfect.

Check him out.

Shift ahead

Are perceptions shifting how we relate to others? Clients? Brands? Perception is the process of attaining awareness or understanding of the environment by organizing and interpreting sensory information.

So what do you think? Does or not?

_______

To help illustrate my point (and available for purchase) showing the Monsters, Inc. minimalist poster by Wonchan Lee.

_______

Showing The Incredibles minimalist poster by Wonchan Lee.

DBP / rocks

Design By Pidgeon has built reputation for creating unique design solutions for range of clients. For many agencies / studios claim so – but DBP actually do – because there are really ‘various’ approaches and concepts they have delivered.

Enjoy a true claim.

Marcos Chin

Marcos Chin illustration style has been finetuned for a number of years now. He has one of the sharpest drawing skillset and one of the top out there.

_______

For years, he’s been trying to take his work and business to the next level. This is such a vague way of speaking – only he knows what the next level is – and it didn’t feel right, until now. His moving to a new studio space is more out of a visceral decision to do so – because he likes to work alone – quietly.

Bravo Co

Bravo Company is a creatively led, independent design studio based in Singapore works to deliver considered and engaging design. Specializing in identity and brand development – their print communications and art direction projects are sensational.

Their simple large iconic system serves as base navigation. On mouseover – small descript. The goodies start when you hit a project.

Another terrific portfolio you can’t get enough of.

Oberhaeuser

Oberhaeuser information and interface design. Information is beautiful and life without information is impossible. But it needs someone to filter the mass of information around us and turn it into something read and useable.

Minimal goes a long way. Beautiful website.

Reject normal

Kelli personally sends in a news. Unassuming and oh so very humble – she didn’t ask for anything.. just that I look. Was quite busy then. Told her I would get back to her.. till now.

16 silly-happy-jaw-dropping-inspiring minutes. Ever.

I certainly don’t say this lightly.

_______

Her website is another jaw-dropping concept using Google map.

_______

First featured her awesome Paper Record Player project.

______

And the pretty cool Tiny colorful buildings she draws.

_______

She gave this talk at TEDxPhoenix 11.11.11 TEDxTalk.

Disruptive Wonder for a Change by Kelli Anderson

She believes that the world is full of order that doesn’t necessarily deserve our respect.. inspires us to change the world around us by rejecting normal order, messing things up, and causing millions of teeny-tiny disruptions to whatever is sitting in front of you.

Read more about it on her blog.

YOU GOTTA SEE THIS.

Spend your best 16 min ever.

Wear it!

Nothing beats a good designy related quote: Great ideas can’t be tested. Only mediocre ideas can be tested — George Lois. And there are more available as cool tees at the Typographyshop.

Have yours today (currently free shipping).

_______

The creative act, the defeat of habit by originality, overcomes everything — George Lois.

Andy Smith

Talented illustrator portfolio of Andy Smith who uses mostly line art likened to children doodles. His work combines illustration and typography to create images that have humour, energy and optimism and all are executed with a handmade, hand-printed, tactile feel.

Leandro Castelao

The exquisitely well crafted and elegant geometric illustrations by Leandro Castelao.

Adobe Cloud 9

Adobe Creative Cloud will be available at just 49,99$ / month this Spring. And that is.. if you think it affordable.

Well when it rains it pours. Everyone is hopping on Cloud 9 wishful thinking it seems. Nothing irks me more than a megapoly deciding to shove yet another ‘update’ down our studio throats because – there’s no other option left in the market.

_______

The vision of Adobe Creative Cloud is to turn previously difficult, disparate workflows into one intuitive, natural experience, allowing you to create freely and deliver ideas on any desktop, tablet, or handheld device.

Really? Difficult, disparate? Beautiful admission – best way to push a new product – is to canibalize existing ones.

Well why not fix it?

_______

While traditional licenses of CS software will still be offered, a membership to Creative Cloud provides more benefits than simply owning desktop software.

What? Traditional licenses. You saying that I am traditional for owning multi-workstations licenses.. Insulting. Working as a living as a ‘creative’ means I’m everything but traditional.

So what do you think? Step forwards or?

M$ Windows 8

Microsoft Windows 8: Inside Paula Scher’s design of the new identity.

I admire the work of Pentagram immensely. So much ground breaking ideas were put out there.. BUT this latest project.. redesigning M$ Windows 8 logo is bad.. really bad.. and not even as bad as all the previous renditions. Hit the link to see the M$ visual branding disaster.

There has been a load of press coverage as usual – but not so glowing. Granted M$ is not known for its sense of design, through the years they didn’t have to pay much attention to it – giga-revenues were flowing in..

So what do you think? Works or not?

Why a start-up?

Log / Transition by Keenan Cummings.

I am was an agency-trained, senior-level, print/branding designer & I want to left to work at a start up. Here’s why:

1) I want my work to feel valuable.

2) I want to stop talking about good work and start making good work.

3) I want other people to find value in my work.

4) I want my mom to understand what I spend my time doing.

5) I want to design with empathy, and that means being close to the ground.

6) I want my stamp on the things I make.

3 Rs of Creativity

The Three Rs of Modern Creativity by Iain Tait

I’ve been thinking about what it takes to be a good creative in a modern agency. And it just so happened that 3 things that kept resurfacing began with an R. So here are my Three Rs for creatives:

1 – Resilience – Don’t give up!

2 – Restraint – Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.

3 – Respect – You can’t do this stuff on your own.
