Ooops ooops ooops. On the relaunch of NDV our famous Best of the Year (BOTY) listing which ran from 2002 through 2009 – were moved to a new location on the server and missing all thumbnails. So sorry about that. Fixed.

Typography Deconstructed (TypeDecon) was built out of frustration and concern for the lack of information on the subject of typography in one place. There are lots of resources both online and in books (some very good) that provide helpful information when it comes to learning what a certain typographical term means or visually seeing the anatomy of type.
Typography Deconstructed is a division of 38pages, LLC.

These taglines have punch and made me chuckle. Even if the product has a respectable number of years under its belt, careful, with a smart as that website, it is evidence that so is the LOMO a technically astonishing, gorgeous little Russian compact camera.
Well conceived. Well thought-out. Long-live the LOMO.

Mister is a design consultancy based in Glasgow, UK. They create original, award-winning work that work effectively across a range of applications from online and print to screen and corporate identity. Brimming over with excellent projects (and lots of them).
Their website is a wonderful grid-like example using lots of negative space and black / charcoal highlights.

Whereas males are becoming increasingly portrayed as objects with serious transgenic features – evolution being totally irrelevant here – these kind of portraits convey what exactly? Be pretty and shut-up? Reversal of roles? Why?
Excerpts from Heavy Weight (sic) by Vincent Schoepfer.

I’m not sure this is the way I would like to be portrayed as a powagirrrl – guess there are still loads prejudicial bias hanging out in the ether – there that needs to be corrected.. but why imply violence? Why is it we have to be so tough to be respected?
Freestyle Collective Chicks by Nook.

Let’s break it down – app development strategy from Image Mechanics! Rigorous design? Check! Litteral metaphor? Check! Short to the point? Check!

Why use a blog for news when you can script messages right into the fonts that you are offering for sale? This is what Commercial Type chose to do in more than bold sizes.. Less time consuming and more eye catching? I guess.
Here’s to ingenuity!

Play & Fluo is the exploratory brand and typographic relaunch experiment that Pablo Alfieri enterprised a while back to dress-up his new hd website. Eye catching and original – especially the picture of the model looking at you from upside down.
Digging it!

Pageboy-Alicia is a Japan based brand that offers a line of cross-european-american street-smart clothes with a thumboy edge. Nice diggs – and photography.

Nothing to be blue about. Digging this Qube Konstrukt illustration project and campaign for Merk. The 3D vignettes are exquisite. All elements were hand-made.

Big departure from his old website, James Marshall aka Dalek is probably one of the most prolific in his sphere of art. Every single piece is a dazzling assemblage of geometric shapes intersecting with contrasting tutti-frutti colors. It could be liken to wild psychedelia if it was not for the fact – that through the years – his style remains intact.

Mathilde Aubier is a graphic design who does collages for a variety of editorial assignments. Her characters often sport cut-out eyes that gives each vignette a somewhat Magritte like surreal dimension.
Especially like the ones featured.

Are You An Armchair Creative? by Mark McGuinness
The armchair takes me into a different space, where my mind can drift and I can see the big picture of the projects I’m working on, notice the patterns that emerge and my gut feeling about the best way forward. When I get up from the armchair, everything is clearer and sharper. My body feels lighter, and more energized.

I have a large pile of old magazines – stacked and ready for future collages. I used them on almost any surfaces, such as some of the desks in my studio and even on the back of bookshelves – to make eye catching room and space dividers.
The Old Magazines typography and poster by RK Estudio is such a genial idea!

Please have a seat. Choose either the Molor chair – or the Break bench or the Ugo sofa – courtesy of Andreas Engesvik and make yourself right at home.
These are the summum in ref w/ modern furniture design.

Your website is under construction? No problem! Peter Mendelsund snapped pictures of his books and voilà – temp placeholder!

Moscow Inside/Outside photography essay by Oksana Yushko.
The city is the people. They just come and crowd around you, make habitations in their own image and likeness, create own problems and then solve them, construct their special world which difficult to reach if you are not inside and from where you can watch the daily life of the city.

Not much information is available in ref w/ Daria Rychkova but I was completely taken by her talent. She draws beautifully. Her line work is impressive and her compositions, outstanding. Can’t wait to see what she puts up on dashaworld, her portfolio website.
Definitely someone to watch for.
