RSA Animate

RSA Animate – Drive: The surprising truth about what motivates us is a cool illustrated animation that will astonish you. For example, based on scientific research, the “3 factors (that) lead to better performance and personal satisfaction are: Autonomy – Mastery – Purpose.”

Must see!

Plushism (land)

Living and sewing in Singapore, Nico created Plushism, land of all the huggable plushies. This is when her passion became wilder! Every piece of her work are individually made with LOVE and CARE.

Showing: FUJIFILM INSTAX MINI 7S Camera case.

What What

Greeting you on top of buildings, outside shops with a fist raised to the sky and in restaurant windows staring unblinkingly, the Japanese mascot is almost unavoidable. Idle Idol: The Japanese Mascot collects these wonderful characters.

Book initiative and written and photographed by What What which is made up of twins John and Edward Harrison.

Post-FIRE day

Post-FIRE (exhibit) day. If you want to see some snapshots check the album. Showing Fabesko (a totally awesome Parisian artist) who created her version of Captain America holding on to the PILLS artwork. It was a hit at first sight!

It so happens that they are almost exactly in the same color hues. Something huh?

72 Modified Computers

“When buying a new computer most people don’t care about its design. Then we have another group of people. The ones that just can’t live with the thought of being just like the average Joe. They want to be among the select few that stands out in a crowd showing off their designer/manufacturing skills no matter how much money it will take getting there.”

72 of The Most Killingest Modified Computers Ever by Richard Darell

Bet you’ve never seen something like these!

DwellStudio

DwellStudio was born in 1999 and founder and creative director Christiane Lemieux, a veteran of the worlds of fashion and home retail, wanted to offer the discerning customer a range of vibrant and modern textile designs.

As nice a website as are the products for home baby and kids. Ample choice for home warming or kidz gifts.

James Braund

James Braund is a Melbourne based photographer who has under his belt having worked with major publishers and titles before starting his own studio. He collaborates with some of Australia’s largest companies, smallest charities and specialist design studios.

His portfolio is outstanding! This guys know his trades. Really like the fact that he has dedicated an area to show his work books in the personal section.

Friends of Type

How long should you wait (or take) from concepting an idea to releasing the project?

“Erik sent me a sweet sketch. I said, “you should post that!” He was like, “where?” So there you go. 8 hours later, at about 4am EST and 1am PST, we are Friends of Type. ”

Smart Intersection

Oki I’ve seen far out but this tops it all. Drawing audio data with motor oil and a backlight? In cooperation with Intersection Magazine Germany and Smart, is Nils Völker new project. There is a making of video that unveils the concept. The project is also part of a touring exhibition across several european cities – Smart Urban Stage.

Oh my!

Hofstede Design

Hofstede Design (located down under) “specialises in identity, publication and environmental graphic design. In a time of ‘brand strategists’ and ‘information architects’, we are doers, not talkers.

Our experience traverses the shift from analogue to digital, from the drawing board to the keyboard, and we appreciate that real originality exists in the hand and the head, and not the hard disk.”

How’s that as mission statement?

Switch Short

Jean Julien Pous is a French young aspiring film director and Switch is an awarded short that is a metaphysical thought on the pressure of time on our society.

Reflective non-MTV paced. Worth watching.

Kicker Phone

Read the case study of an innovative new conference phone (bc conference phones suck) by Kicker Studio aptly named: Kicker Phone. This is one little marvel piece of technology!

Mainstudio

The Amsterdam-based graphic design agency Mainstudio has been established by Edwin van Gelder in 2005. They love typography, magazines, identities, illustration and books. Working in the areas of music, theater, fashion and art, they collaborate with photographers, illustrators and copy writers.

Winner Golden Cube Art Directors club NY, MARK magazine 2009.

Alex McLeod *up

Have you visited Alex McLeod portfolio of 3D art yet? If not hop on there. Fantastic – just fantastic work and unbriddled imagination.

Shape the Hive

Now and then pops-up a community based project and Shape the Hive is a kaleidoscopic crystal like making experiment using static visuals or videos to produce unique pods. If you’re so inclined – this one is for you. Have fun!

Project H

“Design can change the world.” This is what I believe in and why I do what I do. To the hordes of sceptics, please pause to view the following video that recall how Sappi is supporting Ideas that matters and how Emily Pilloton – Founder and Executive Director of Project H Design is using her grant, to do so.

She is former Managing Editor of Inhabitat.com, writer, California girl and unwavering optimist, she has written for ID, GOOD, ReadyMade, taught design theory, and lectures worldwide about new social impact imperatives for the product design industry.

Her book, “Design Revolution: 100 Products that Empower People,” is a compendium of and call-to-action for product design for social impact.

A Matter of Taste

I’m nowhere near being a fashionista — since I’m definitely a artsy-geeky type when it comes to fashion (cool tees, jeans and kicks) — but this is blowing me away: A Matter of Taste was imagined, designed and photographed by Fulvio Bonavia.

Everything you will see has been constructed with edible (or natural) elements.

Oh my gosh! This is awesome!

The Bare Essentials

Ashwin Patel aka Grid London just released a topical poster The Bare Essentials – a self-initiated project based on the stereotypical ‘must haves’ of the graphic designer from mind set and values to tools and appliances.

Available for purchase too :))

The Greek Crisis

Nomint have released very timely Episode /1 and Episode /2 of the The Greek Crisis Explained. Excellent information design with very well illustrated animated vignettes wrapped in a retro TV anchor feel narration.

Must see!

Kashiwa Sato

Kashiwa Sato has probably the best hidden portfolio on the web. Blinnking bar codes kinda of distract you into thinking this is what the website about. Just click one of the series of blocks and opens up, a section to his amazing work: photography, branding, editorial design.

Fortunately you don’t need to come back to index, just use top left arrows to go from one project to the other.

Lee Mawdsley

Voyage through spaces. Lee Mawdsley is a photographic virtuose. Be it people, still life, furniture, outdoor, accessories, etc, all pictures are exemplary compositions, some with bedazzling symmetry. Either peeking through an unsuspecting angle or subject, either soaring over or plunding under, you are like him, standing just behind his lens.

Some spend a lifetime amassing a fraction of the quality of his portfolio.

Caroline Selmes

Caroline Selmes is a talented French illustrator currently living in Barcelona. Her style is whimsical, laced with folk art references and overall, her hand-drawn like compositions are loaded with delightful details.

Stellar iconwerk

Oh the lovelies! Stefan Dziallas aka iconwerk specializes in custom icon and pictogram design for your next project. Proficient natural metaphor smartness abounds. Gotta luv the opening visual!

That guy delivers premium good. His work is stellar.

Guzzle.it now

Currently guzzle is a verb intimately linked to gazoline and how cars are guzzling down because the electric car was can years ago. So what if Marca Tatem creates a RSS aggregator and names it that way? My first guess would be that Guzzle.it crunches hundreds of feeds every second. Must say I’m quite impressed with the ease of quickly choosing, organizing and prioritizing the information you want which holds on a single-page. Nice.

Watch the screencast for a quick intro and see how it works.

As of today, the iPhone app is available as well.

Meets psychedelia

Just like the having humor popping colors hand drawn like deconstructivism meets psychedelia illustration style of Andrew Joyce who probably ingested at some point, large doses of Yellow Submarine (and similar projects).

The Lobster Font

The Lobster Font holds 74 subtle ligatures, 37 terminal forms on top of being a contributive project and is free (donating is a good idea). Read on.

Food about you

FREITAG bags it

FREITAG has been manufacturing bags and accessories for women and men since 1993. The materials are used, having seen service on the road. They are well-travelled truck tarpaulins, unravelled seat belts, bicycle inner tubes beyond repair, recycled airbags.

Tough stuff – which makes their products tough, too. They apply the recycled materials in a totally new way, insisting on superlative design and functionality. Every FREITAG product is a one-off.

Now how cool is that?

Adam Rix Rocks

Adam Rix decided he was going to take full advantage of a full-screen portfolio as well as a full-time freelancer. He came as a designer, and left as a creative head. He’s won over 30 industry awards for his work. Now he’s branching out by himself and looking for assignments. He specialises in design, art direction and branding and has done a pretty good job at it.

The focus of all of his work is ideas. True!

Hello Lee Hasler

Eyeport is gone! Long live Lee Hasler for endorsing himself as a durable brand. The bulk of his illustrations has impressed me for quite a number of years, he made it to our Best of the Year listing in 2005 and year after year since, he delivers genuine eye candy.

One of the best pixel based illustrator in the world, his bulky-squary characters are set in top down perspectives (like flying over sorta speaking) are to the last pixel, bundles of joy.

Leterme Dowling

Leterme Dowling designed the very-slick-and-stark black and white brand identity and marketing materials for Counter-Print.co.uk. Gotta luv the tongue in cheek reference that mostly, books are printed on white page with black text. And smell terrific.

Sorry for having you break your neck reading – please indulge in the good care advice for books on the tote bag. Delicious read. And that from book lovers as us.

Entartete Kunst

Derek Stenning lives in a world of his own filled with astronauts of surreal, painful and of grandiose attitude and canvas proportions. His drawing and perspective skills are of master class quality and the palette enriched with drama and outwardly light.

As you can see there is this central character Entartete Kunst who appears in most of his projects. The breathing apparel (or what looks like it) is to be likened to a much wanted balloon when you’re a kid?

A Book Apart

Behind the launch of a new publishing house: “When Mandy Brown, Jason Santa Maria and I formed A Book Apart, one topic burned uppermost in our minds, and there was only one author for the job.”

Tagline from the first and newly released title which can be preorder:

“The HTML5 spec is 900 pages and hard to read. HTML5 for Web Designers is 85 pages and fun to read. Easy choice.”

Who would you rather trust? No brainer.
