Oval signature

What a brilliant and creative approach! James Westwater has made it his own unique signature to incorporate ‘ovals’ shapes into everything he does. Check out the walls installations of mix media, found objects and paintings.

_______

And the surprising composition of his plywood Chateau on wheels. Somewhere nice to snuggle and read.

Small book

VHAU Estudio is a graphic design studio producing various ideas in art and for many media. Gotta luv their new visit card! Creating kind of a small book made of one sheet paper to showcase their work.

Fold it neatly and tada!

Nizo app teaser

Well you’ve been working in the background on developing a great app and you need to create a little pre-launch buzz and intrigue around it. Here’s what the folks behind the Nizo app for iPhone have done: dynamically assembled ‘parts’ literal parts as clues to generate a teaser that is both indication of what the app will do, although clouted in mystery, and also the intricacies of the what the app functionalities will be. Smart!

Objective met! I’m intrigued.

So what do you think it is?

_______

Exclusive visual originally designed by pizzafire, provided by Jason Cotterrell who is part of the developing team Image Mechanics from Australia.

Sticky Monster Lab

Cracking up for these toys designed by SML (Sticky Monster Lab). There is such vulnerability perceived, bit weird (well aren’t we all some days) and still lovable.

SML have created such a brand experience around these. The packaging and accompanying posters are gorgeous (as well the mini accessories)! Oh and their logo (play on word for Small Medium Large)?

_______

LOVE the new collection. These are cuties!

_______

Watch the unboxing videos. Nice idea!

Scam or?

So what do you think of the Google + project? Is this something you would use? Another megapoly scam? Or?

Diacarta

Diacarta is a such a well-design app! Luv the icons and how it creates a visual of your ‘day’ scheduled activities which you can access with just a touch of a finger.

Syncs with iPhone native calendar too.

Norr family

Love the Norr font created by Damien Gauthier and Quentin Margat. Available via Éditions Deux-Cent-Cinq.

Creativity x2

Creativy x2 – because the business of design requires that our creative processes grow and seek nutrition and enrichment. Here are two articles to feed your mind.

_______

Creativity? Pursuit of change

One of my favorite quotes comes from a book I highly recommend: It’s not how good you are, it’s how good you want to be, by Paul Arden. "All creative people need something to rebel against, it’s what gives their (and clients) lives excitement," and, "Successful solutions are often made by people rebelling against bad briefs."

Here are some pointers to keep your creativity alive.

_______

Ideas! A closer look at creativity!

So how do we in fact become proficient idea generators? First, ideas = creativity. The root of creativity stems from the word creation which is to create from nothing. Nice theoretical assumption. Now what is the practical side?

WURM app

a href=”http://wurmapp.com/”>WURM is an iPhone / iPad app to create dazzling abstract wallpapers with just your finger. Using any movement, fast or slow and see what happens. Pick up a color palette, shapes or drawing forms and next thing you know – you have relaxed.

Brought to you by Anna O. programmer. Making algorithms for art. Lover of patterns (no doubt about that). The very first woman that I know of – who has created an app.

Know more who did? Please suggest here.

Or in comment form.

P.O.S. for Anta

Shotopop and JWT Shanghai put their heads together to create these in-store displays out of shoe boxes for sports-brand ANTA. Check-out these tactile illustrations that garnered Cannes Lions.

Adaptation

Oh! Now that’s a really cool concept to expresse: Adaptation. Created for the Barcelona City Council as an outdoor print and newspaper campaign art directed by Conor Cronin and Gaizka Sampedro.

Resplenda

Splendid illustration for editorial design assignments by Borja Bonaque Gotta luv the geometric and angular shapes that makes you focus on a ‘curvy’ detail, almost an anomaly, driving the message home.

The iPad one is such an original idea!

Chill. Reboot. Create.

Long week-end ahead for us and intend on practicing what’s written on the poster and take time to read the 100 Ways to Kill a Concept: why most ideas get shot down by Michael Iva

33 Ways to?

33 Ways to stay creative by Frederik Frede.

Reform air

Aerial bouncing girl / boy photographic concept for the new Reform Clothing Co. collection. Did you know that the entire range can be customized? From the fabric color to the designs, prints embroideries and nicknames for each garment?

Keep in mind they’re located in Australia.

Hoehenluft

Pixelgarten is a small bureau for multidisciplinary creation based in Frankfurt am Main Germany. It was founded by Catrin Altenbrandt and Adrian Niessler who have been working for various clients in many fields of design including illustration, fashion, identity and editorial design.

They like to do self-initiated projects and have been very active exhibiting their work.

Showing: Exhibition view of Hoehenluft, a mix of photography, tactile and illustration.

Superscript

Very nice catalog layout for TOLIX by Superscript. A graphic design studio vested in mostly print projects based in Lyon, FR and as their name evokes, they have favored lots of typographic explorations, check out the rest of their portfolio to see more.

Luv the sparingness and minimalist grid which allows for products to shine.

Highly defined

Studio Lin is the graphic design practice of Alex Lin. Their work process is founded on a desire to explore new territory through challenging collaborations with creative visionaries in the fields of architecture, industrial design, art and fashion.

Behind every design is a highly defined rationale but not a singular style. The common denominator is a fresh, modern sensibility that eschews the overtly trendy in favor of lasting impact.

The portfolio is so rich in all following: creative output, challenging projects and inspiration – you will find it hard to hit it and run it.

Showing: Design w/Conscience projects

Funky interiors

Very pretty interior spaces photography of mix-match-ecclectic-funky accessories by Sanna Lindberg.

Mathis Pfaeffli

Mathis Pfaeffli a member of the Lucerne based Detektiv Bureau But currently I live and work in Leipzig. Check out his poster series. Love the sparingness and cutting-edge concepts as well as his typography placement.

BreakThrough

BreakThrough a new illustration contest call for entries. Cash award, trip to NYC, meet-up with other art directors / artists. Opened to 5 years and less experience, must be between 18-35 years old.

You know ‘good’ when you see ‘good’.

Circografico

Alex Dukal is an illustrator born and raised between the wastelands, wind and sand from Patagonia Argentina. He works for publishers around the world illustrating with passion different kind of projects, mostly for children projects.

He’s such a good visual storyteller.

Without music?

Appropriate for today! Awesomeness. Yesterday we composed a brand new song from scratch and were able to make a from start to end score and lyrics. Weee. More tweaking under way.

Without music life would be a mistake eye chart poster by Jan Skácelík’ a graphic designer / photographer / composer in Olomouc Czech Republic.

Resonance +

Resonance = 20 motion designers (studios) + 11 sound designers to explore the relationship between geometry and audio = A-A-A-mazing! Evidently there are loads of blurb blobbing mass of something wet sticky or plastified all animated and loads of spikes shiny reflective or not, galatactiky or earthly but such were the constraints.. you know the ‘geometry’ part.

Shows how ‘soundscapes’ influence and make for a big portion of our perception of a film.

Spectacular! What a great initiative.

More please!

How to think up digital ideas by Ben Keenan who is a senior copywriter / digital specialist at Clemenger BBDO.

Good tips and creative exercises.

Foxconn’s Lies

The Truth of the Apple iPad Behind Foxconn’s Lies

In 2010, Foxconn was under the spotlight of the media due to the suicide tragedies. At least 18 workers committed suicides and 3 survived. One year on from the spate of suicides..

Rampant labour rights violations and harsh management remain. Workers always have excessive and forced overtime work. Sometimes, they have to skip meals if they cannot accomplish the production target. They have to stand for over 10 hours on shop floor and cannot talk with each other. They are exposed to chemicals aluminium dust but do not have adequate protection..

Check out the lettering section as well. This guy LOVES typography.

Behind Ricardo

Ricardo Gimenes has found a very smart way to show his illustration skills (amongst others) – distribute his art for free as desktops (for iPhone too) and sells .eps for a nominal fee – all this in one swell woosh. Every other day he publishes a featurette about a website as an illustration. The portfolio section is a little rectangle with tabs that takes about 15% of interface.

So what do you think? Works or not?

Hello Kitschy

Fantastic Hysteria is a freelance illustrator and designer from Spain and I wish he would complete his retro-kitschy-hello-it’s-the-50’s-all-over-again Cartoon alphabet. Luv the color palette and exquisite details.

Very cute signature too (bottom right).

In Depth Mag

In Depth Design Magazine is a result of a long term assignment for Natasha Lid, a second year graphic design student in Oslo, Norway. Very smart concept: focus exclusively on one subject per issue – subjects that deserve more than one article; enlightening details in a larger extent, by making a magazine that gives a bigger picture of something small.

Wonderful prototype about typography, grid, etc.

Published by Process

iPad App by Published by Process

With so much ongoing debate of print versus digital, as a publisher of printed publications we felt it was our duty to comprehensively investigate the current state of digital publishing. After researching and downloading every digital publication we could get our hands on, we decided the best way to complete our research was to get some hands-on experience with designing and developing our very own iPad app.

Unlike many other digital publications the Process Journal digital release is not just an exported document from the original printed version; it is a standalone release.

Free for download.

BLANK #fbad9a

While waiting for her new website to go online – Alexandra Mendes aka BLANK – a design thinking (for graphic minds) independent design consultancy to both clients and design agencies has opted for a one-page placeholder with animated thumbnails of her past work and studio artefacts. Most unusual base color: #fbad9a – an opaque ‘flesh’ tone and tints with black accent.

Blank makes tailored projects. Experimentation is the basic structure of her work. Always looking for answers in the most improbable places. They must be there… Somewhere!

Thinking O+

Christopher David Ryan… a Portland, Maine-based graphic artist, daydreamer, pseudo-scientist, wanna-be astronaut and untrained intellectual says that: YES… All of the work featured on this site is my own. Why so? Because his, is as ecclectic as one can find.

He has successfully designed the Sleephyheads (you have what you daydream) collection of pillows (sold-out), book and posters.

MAD11 titles

What a strange and original way to express how ‘creativity’ stems from within us. Extremely well done storyboard, motion and editing. Luv the contrasting Art Nouveau like typography over the organic bubbling wiggling shapes. Texturing and 3D fx are fantastic.

Little people encore

I luv designer toys and the smaller – the better. I like to think sometimes in the perspective of these liliput inhabitants around the studio. So small and the space to them – would be perceived as so large. Sometimes when facing a design or creative challenge – I feel the same.

Sooo small in front of a sooo large challenge.

The clothes – the editing – the choreography of the video from Dorhout Mees – Ballets Russes Collection f/w 2011 featuring Gild Atelier collection is supremely artistic and a gem in itself.
