15 key facts

Digital Life: Today & Tomorrow by Neo Labels explores 15 key facts and conclusions to know the future of the Internet in 2015. Such as: ‘More consumers will access the Internet by mobile devices than by desktop or laptop by 2014’.

Have been predicting this for a looooong time: ‘All devices to the network’.

Read it. Watch it!

_______

Extraordinary 3d illiustrations – great storyboarding.

Ziiiro Aurora

What a beautiful watch the Ziiiro Aurora! Luv the minimalist design and tutti-frutti colors. Ingenious way to show time: no hands, no markings.

_______

Found it via MakeWonder a new social shopping project that offers a ‘blind’ gifts store – what an intriguing concept.

_______

question: Would you buy ‘blind’ gifts? Yay or nay?

Versatile mama

Penelope Dullaghan is as versatile as her work. She does illustration, fine art, type, patterns. Her projects are stamped with a dreamy like signature, her palette is often muted with contrasting accents. She has been widely published and her work awarded too.

She is one-half (co-founder) of popular Illustration Friday.

Out of the closet

Since repurposing Netdiver Mag and opening Netdiver Mag – I have been quite busy working in kinda of stealth mode to tweak-tweak-tweak how to present new content, production of this FANTA (code name) project which intends to afford a robust and playful outlet for creatives around the world to express and promote themselves. No due date yet.

Curious? Read more in-depth in this just released interview I did for FUEL magazine (for iPad). No iPad? Download as a .pdf which sports one of my illustration on their launch issue cover :))

_______

Netdiver Mag is all about sharing what catches my eyes both as inspiration and creative lessons that probe and push me to excel in whatever I enterprise. I need the visual stimuli as the air I breath.

Through the years, I realise that I have been very discrete about other passions in my life – apart from everything design – but this is about to change. Like.. now.

Five years ago I took the despotic rule of the CTRL+Z universe out of the equation and started painting large abstract canvas. Why? To play with pretty colors for sure, and keep learning about chromatics. But also to learn about new problem-solving and decision-making processes. By painting would you say?

Well once you’ve applied a spot of paint and don’t like the result – can’t delete it right? So this forces me to think and ultimately, find a way to recuperate the ‘mess’ and make it part of the emerging visual. Sometimes the sum of my painting is just a string of corrections. Sometimes it is pure insight.

Also, since my little bro passed 1.5 year ago, he was a musician and experienced with the music production industry – he admonished JF and I to stop ‘researching’ and start ‘doing’.

We had a band 20 years ago and worked 7 years on our projects. When came the www opportunity – we jumped in and for the best of the past 15 years – it was our main focus. JF became a FED (front-end developer) and I a publisher. We had and still have much passion for what it means to be connected 24/7 to the world via technology. I am in awe every day.

We don’t care so much for technology as we care for content distribution and leveraging the creative industry (all disciplines confounded) through disintermediation and circulation of works like never before in the history of our creative culture.

Throughout the years we composed music / songwriting (and piled up a good amount of sketches), invested in new instruments and in the digital music studio parnophelia required to do a decent demo. All the while JF was (and still is) re-learning the new era way of music recording and production. Michel serving as a catalyst, kind of signified it was time for us to go back to it.

We are currently working on two albums. First one is an ‘in memoriam’ album with lots of instrumental tracks to be freely distributed to people going through the agony of losing someone.

The second is a compilation of new and revisited songs, that dip into what we think is now ‘our’ sound and style.

If you read this far, thank you. You visiting is the reason why I am pursuing everything I’m doing. I am no longer a closet publisher, artist nor songwriter.

Expect that the mix of ‘content’ on Netdiver Mag to include from now on the daily mix of creative inspirational projects plus bits and pieces of what I am doing, such as takes (snapshots) of on-going canvas, design experimentations and music.

You ok with that?

showing: Take #3 untitled

Cough series

Gotta luv the Cough series by Andrew Banneker. To view larger visuals of his work – right-click images to open in a new window. Tedious I know.

Olaf Hajek

Olaf Hajek is into a painterly style that attracts a lot of editorial commissions. Often depicts crowded over spaces or sometimes, which I prefer, completely minimalist. Overall is work is strong and bold and yet, can be very detailed and refined.

Pure genius

Alex Varanese is a designer with a background in 3D and that there isn’t much overlap between traditional typography as he thinks there could be. Some of his compositions are pure genius.

The Live Now / book

Live Now (a community of happiness) is a growing collection of friends, powerfully pursuing the notion of ‘living now’. We’re spreading our message through artwork, literature, relationships, exhibitions and more. This movement cannot be confined, is spilling out, and making history.

The Live Now book is a collection of inspirational quotes and illustrations pursuing the notion of living a happy and engaged life.

Please help spread the word!

Space Shower TV

SLS2011 Image Spot is the imaginary intro of upcoming summer music festival. The concept was came from the moment an orchestra tuning up. Production by Space Shower TV.

Universaldesign

Universal Design studio had one of the best interior design sites I had seen. You could watch the screen changes to display clients’ work. Clickicking on scrolling icons and new background loaded. Clicking on background and navigation collapsed, so you could see the sharp picture behind. That was then.. (2002)..

_______

This is now.. Guess they’ve chosen to concentrate on doing what they do best which is extraordinary interior design. The website is less impressive – but the projects are! The visual constructs revolve often around geometric forms and shapes, strong architectural balance and repeated patterns.

Still jaw-dropping.

Deliriously smart

Discover the deliriously out of this world collection of illustrations by Colin Johnson. Read the captions of each illustration to get a scope of his conceptual abilities and imagination.

His are not meant as pretty pictures. But as smart pictures.

Makes you think.

EDA winners

And the winners are? ED Awards seek to promote and raise standards for communication design throughout Europe and to properly honour and award people who invest their passion in design.

I had even featured some of the winners previously. Nice!

I am more than my face

In this self-portrait photographic essay, she intended to create herself, instead of finding her identity. The human face seems to emphasize ‘who’ a person is, and gives some insight about the individual. The series challenges the viewer’s misconceptions and stereotypes.

Carlos Camp

Carlos Camp at an early age found his vocation for drawing and design. Declared admirer of Herb Lubalin, Shepard Fairey and Denis Zilber, his inspiration is everything that surrounds him. Be it music, an object, a simple movement. He likes to capture the essence of what we are seeing and bring it into his work.

Digging the retro nostalgia of the Catalog series.

Hard Things

After spending the week-end reshuffling the (music) studio and moving heavy and / or fragile stuff around to and fro that room to another and back, struggling with one table leg that wouldn’t stay levelled for a couple of hours, until we found the solution (ain’t Google essential?), finding the right new place for instruments, mics and wires (lots), hiding an hideous closet door with a black opaque blind and using hardware from another.. whew!

I can assure you – this saying is now true to us (hats off JF):

We Can Do Hard Things

_______

The sign is hanging in the Etsy offices in New York City.
And here now, virtually.

Visualizing humanity

Artfully visualizing our humanity by Aaron Koblin (TED talk)

His work takes real-world and community generated data and uses it to reflect on cultural trends and the changing relationship between humans and technology.

Inspiring quote:

19th century culture was defined by the novel,
20th century by the cinema,
the culture of the 21st century will be defined by the interface.

Stacking-up

Pino is a market place for unique, functional and innovative design objects. The idea for the concept camefrom the name of the shop, Pino, which means a ‘pile’ or ‘stack’ in Finnish. Luv the logo!

Looks pretty much like my dream store.

Skype offices

pS Arkitektur enhance their clients image and business capacity through innovative architecture and design. Their motto? Architecture for change. They take an overall responsibility for the project throughout the process – from conceptual sketches to finalised product.

See what they did for the Skype offices! We’re talking humongous (over the top?) $$$$$ budget here. Made possible because of M$ recent buyout???

What do you think?

Typfruitography

Typfruitography by Garret Steider. Edible alphabet deliciously carved or staged! All in upper and lower cases. What an idea! What dedication it took to set-up everything so nothing would go stale.

Square One

Big ideas don’t happen behind closed doors. That’s why they keep their work space and their work style open. For the last 25 years, they’ve applied this informal collaboration to branding.

Hats off to Square One Design and to many more years!

_______

Even their blog is delicious.

Founded

A set of 4 limited edition posters printed in two colours for Baltic and designed by Founded.

Combinatory

Scheltens & Abbenes are the sum total of the unique talent of a still-life photographer and the creative craftsmanship of an artist. Technical perfection added to individual handicraft, strong pictorial clarity in addition to tailor-made styling. Combining their distinct but partly overlapping fields of expertise.

Superb staging and photography by this long time collaborating and real-life couple.

Featured: the Mode Depesche project that looks – from a distance – like modern abstract paintings of sort. One of the many examples of their really original ideas.

Aircrash awarded

Aircrash is a program promo for National Geographic that Vascolo based in Argentina designed and animated for FOX Italy. It just raked a bronze medal at the NewYork Festivals. The storyboard is a little chef-d’oeuvre of efficiency. Watching it – you get it! Illustrations are sweet and generic enough for a wide audience.

Well done!

Orange Label

Totally partial to pixel design which I find immensely challenging and I am in awe of those who can design this way. Such precise attention to details, perspective and storyboarding.

Check out the cute Orange Label background image – free for download too – on index of their website. Luv the presentation of what they do – mostly web related – and the tabs to download .pdf.

Dandy cast

What a strange (and believable) cast of characters Ryan Berkley illustrates, who self-describes as: I’m a comics inspired gentleman surrounded by toys and Chewbacca masks.

No wonder, most look like all-dressed up dandies!

iCrates app

Nurturing the love of vinyl and analog music since 2010, iCrates is a global platform for music lovers that are passionate about vinyl records and crate digging! iCrates app 1.1 for iPhone and iPod touch is the ultimate search tool – watch the video to see functionalities.

_______

An initiative to which a great friend, Laura Weider contributes. Btw she owns a Guinness World record for the longest concert by a solo artist. She played non-stop for.. 40 hours!

I like this!

Transfixing

The transfixing work of Jung-Yeon Min is an alliage of surrealistic and illustrative styles. The patterns and textures that underline the perspective are as beautiful as mind challenging. Sometimes it is even hard to decorticate.

The dreamy-like landscapes whereas nature meets urbania, allow viewers to drift quietly into her fantastic inner worlds.

Not an eyesore

What’s with this website design? by Brandon Oxendine

First: it is kind of hard to explain. It’s on one hand an exploration in readability and garish pattern combinations. On the other hand, it’s a no holds barred foray into the unknown territory of doing whatever I want and attempting to get away with it.

At the very least, it’s interesting. Hopefully it’s also inspiring and seen as an innovative approach to designing for the web. Sorry if it’s just an eyesore. And no, it in no way prescribes my ‘style’.

_______

Oddly enough it is innovative, nice, inspiring and compelling. No doubt Brandon is very talented and is someone to watch for.

Curious now? Head-on there and see for yourself.

Human Being

Please dress-up carefully. Human Being tee by origin68. Read the labels on it! Rad idea! Should be mandatory in schools to empower respect and deter bullying. You know like a ‘uniform’. And then, why not everywhere where human rights are non-existant or crushed?

Sign of intelligence. Not just cheeky design.

Contents may vary in colour? Brilliant!

Minimal is right

Minimal is a diversely talented product design hub concentrated mostly around lifestyle and technology brands. Their products are oozing with minimalist curvature and slick shapes that makes you want to have and hold. They epitomize in their approach and project deliveries what everyone else would like to achieve: the oooooh and wooooow reactions.

From this, to this, to that. The success story is one currently being told around the no less than extraordinary funding of the TikTok + LunaTik (watch the movie) watches which raised almost $1 million on Kickstarter.

Pet moto? Do what you think is right and apologize later.

Pattern Matters

Jaw-dropping paper sculptures double-tasking as data visualization! The intricacy of the Pattern Matters projects such as the one featured, is mind-blowing – almost hypnotic. As being one who cannot see (for the life of me) see in 3D – this is exactly the kind of projects – I wish – don’t I wish – I was capable of.

Go be impressed.

Typetoken

Found this Wim Crouwel poster in full 1969 regalia on Typetoken, a new online magazine that asks you to join its journey into the symbolic world of typography.

Project is a collaboration between graphic designers Mike Sullivan of Mister and Mark Millic of Modularlab, and web developer David Cole of Mayfield Digital.

10,000 by Field

10,000 unique digital paintings. Each sleeve features a different view on a hypercomplex sculpture, generated through a process combining generative coding with creative intuition.

Typofolie(s)

Christian Robert-Tissot has got a deep love affair with typography.. but he does not only show his projects with printouts.. How about he paints type on canvas mostly? Or does on-location installations in galleries or on city squares with metal wiring?

Stickler for perfection and no shaky hands involved here.

Stampaxx

Now someone(s) have spent a whole lot of time and gave a whole lot of love to this projects: Stampaxx is a free social media stamp collection to brand your work.

Imagineered by Thomas and Mike.

Analog Controls

Minimalist illustration series of Analog Controls by Chad Hagen.

3D holographic

3D holographic fashion show. After shooting with a high speed camera Tim Jockel did all stages of post production, from 3D to motion graphics to compositing. The result? One of the biggest holographic projections ever which creates a complete optical illusion and breaks the rules of time and space on stage.

There are some pretty stunning sequences!

Design ethos

We are in the business of creating the future. Technology unprecedented explosion of advances is shaping the landscape – in fact, preparing the playing field, for us.

But we, creatives of the world, are the ones populating it. Therefore, we must take full responsibility of what we will cast and broadcast.

Only us, can insure that visual media and design culture does not become a huge consumerism wasteland.

Let’s make sure that that one idea at a time, we affect the world, our world.. for the better.

Animalia

Animalia inspired mostly. João Lauro Fonte is Brazillian who now lives in London, where he fell in love with illustration, apparel, prints and band cover designs and discovered that, indeed, he don’t like tea.

Foma collective

Foma is a Brazilian based art collective and design studio located in the heart of São Paulo. Their website is so simple to navigate, therefore, easy to explore.

Probably one of the best portfolio I have seen so far this year! Luv some of the fruity colors mixed with other palette that are exquisitely elegant. Their illustrations are delicious. The quality and scope of their projects are dazzling – infused with creativity and dripping with mastered skills.

Go enjoy!

Best pitch ever

The best pitch ever! Frank Chimero a designer I admire, has used Kickstarter to pitch for an upcoming book he wanted to write. Watch the movie and learn. Firstly, finding a creative way to get the message across – read the brief. Secondly, engaging emotionally the viewer – watch the video. Thirdly? Succeeding!

He was asking for 25k and he received a staggering 112,159$!!!

Can’t wait to read The Shape of Design.

Tee for tea = 8T5
